Interested in singing with the Rackham Choir this spring? We are always excited to welcome new voices into our community.
Singers who are interested in joining the Rackham Choir for our upcoming spring season are invited to join us at rehearsal on Tuesday, January 6, or Tuesday, January 13, and to audition immediately following. Rehearsals are held at 7:00 PM at First Presbyterian Church of Royal Oak, 529 Hendrie Blvd, Royal Oak, MI 48067
Our spring concert, “I, Too, Sing America”, will take place on Sunday, March 22nd at 4:00 PM, with our dress rehearsal on Thursday, March 19th at 6:30 PM at Birmingham First United Methodist Church. The concert will lift up the voices and works of underrepresented American composers. Featured repertoire includes:
- Chichester Psalms by Leonard Bernstein
- Battle Hymn of the Republic arranged by Wilhousky
- Redeem the Dream by Brandon A. Boyd
- I Dream a Dream by Rosephanye Powell
Boyd’s “Redeem the Dream” sets Langston Hughes’ poem Let America Be America Again, interwoven with excerpts from the Declaration of Independence. This poignant and powerful piece explores the tensions between America’s democratic ideals and historical realities, but ultimately affirms a collective hope for a future defined by justice, equality, and unity.
In addition to our concert season, we are delighted to once again welcome four incredibly talented high school interns to our choir. Watching their growth and development is one of the great joys of our year, and we look forward to showcasing their progress in our Intern Showcase later in the season in late April/early May.
