After 6 years, An Evening with Alvin Waddles & Friends returns this fall with A Study in Blue with Rackham Choir.
Experience Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue,” performed by Alvin Waddles with an orchestra conducted by Suzanne Mallare Acton.
Rackham Choir performs Will Todd’s “A Mass in Blue,” under the direction of Julian Goods, with Nicole Joseph, soprano. Plus, you will experience a collage of other pieces from an array of genres including classical, jazz, gospel, and soul, and, a world premiere.
The “Mass in Blue” was written by contemporary British composer and jazz pianist, Will Todd, who is best known for combining jazz and blues with traditional choral music. Commissioned by the Hertfordshire Chorus in the United Kingdom, “Mass in Blue” premiered in 2003. Performed more than 500 times, it continues to receive praise from audiences and critics because of its bold blend of jazz rhythms and choral harmonies. Its connection with jazz improvisational style makes it a natural outgrowth of Alvin Waddles’ and Rackham Choir’s collaboration on Too Hot To Handel, making it a great way to kick off the holiday season!
Alvin’s Friends include: Alaina Brown, soprano, Gregory Ashe, tenor, Testimony Sings Gospel Quintet, Brendan Davis, pianist & composer.
