Rackham Choir Section Leader Job Description
Positions Available: Soprano, Tenor, and Bass Section Leaders
Location: Rehearsals are held at First Presbyterian Church of Royal Oak, 529 Hendrie Blvd, Royal Oak, MI
Rehearsal Time: Tuesday evenings, 7:00–9:00 PM
Compensation: $60 per rehearsal | $125 per performance
About Rackham Choir: Rackham Choir is a Detroit-based, auditioned community chorus known for its innovative programming and artistic excellence. This season, we are presenting major choral works including Mass in Blue by Will Todd and Chichester Psalms by Leonard Bernstein, among other dynamic repertoire.
Position Summary
Rackham Choir seeks highly skilled and reliable Soprano, Tenor, and Bass section leaders to join the ensemble for the 2024–2025 season. Section leaders are expected to provide strong musical leadership within their sections, assist in vocal preparation, and serve as a musical support system for the choir.
Key Responsibilities
- Attend all regular Tuesday evening rehearsals, Saturday rehearsals (as scheduled), and scheduled performances
- Lead by example in vocal production, musicality, professionalism, and preparedness
- Assist the Artistic Director by leading sectional rehearsals as needed
- Provide musical support to fellow choristers and help foster a collaborative rehearsal environment
- Maintain timely and professional communication with the Artistic Director and administrative team
Qualifications
- Excellent musicianship and sight-reading skills
- Strong, reliable vocal technique
- Previous choral experience, preferably in a leadership capacity
- Ability to lead sectionals or support sectional rehearsals
- Punctual, communicative, and collaborative demeanor
- Availability for all scheduled rehearsals and performances throughout the season
